Copy, cut and paste

NORMAL mode

  • Copying/cutting something is called yanking. So the shortcut to yank is y
  • yy will copy the entire line
    • first y indicates the start of the yank operation
    • second y specifies the scope of the yank operation
  • p (lowercase) will paste on the line below
  • P (uppercase) will paste on the line above
  • dd will yank and delete, basically what you would call cut in a traditional editor
